The North Fork of the Jocko River is the trailhead to Lost Sheep Lake. Lost Sheep Lake is a great day hike. The trail is used by hikers, bikers and horseback riders as well as mountain lions and bears.
The Jocko River is a tributary of the Flathead River in northwestern Montana. From its headwaters in the Mission Mountains, to its confluence with the Flathead to the west, the river is situated entirely within the Flathead Indian Reservation. There are three primary tributaries of the mainstream Jocko River: the North, Middle, and South Forks.
The North Fork of the Jocko River is a beautiful place to explore. It is also the trail head to Lost Sheep Lake. Please remember that safety is important - tell someone where you are hiking to and when you will be back. Be prepared for an animal encounter. We have black bears, grizzly bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes, badgers…all the animals that call the Rocky Mountain Mountains home. Do not count on cell service, due to our mountain valleys there are many areas of the mountains without cell service.
